Environmental Impact Assessment Study for the Project of phased construction of the railway connection from the existing Smederevo – Mala Krsna railway line to the Smederevo industrial port

13. 11. 2017

In accordance with the Environmental Impact Assessment Law (Official Gazette of the RS, Nos. 135/2004 and 36/2009) governing the issues of importance for environmental impact assessment, the Institute of Transportation CIP prepared the Environmental Impact Assessment Study for the Project of phased construction of the railway connection from the existing Smederevo – Mala Krsna railway line to the Smederevo industrial port.

This study is based on:

  • Preliminary design for construction of the railway connection from the existing Smederevo - Mala Krsna railway line to the Smederevo industrial port, also prepared by the Institute of Transportation CIP in 2005
  • Data obtained from the Smederevo City Administration, Environmental Department
  • Completed field investigations
  • Applicable laws and planning documentation

Environmental contaminants were identified in the future railway corridor, the quality of land, ground waters and air was analysed and the accredited laboratory of the Institute of Transportation CIP conducted the target measurements of noise in that area.

Measures for prevention, mitigation and elimination of possible negative environmental impacts of the project in the railway corridor during the project implementation, railway line operation and in case of accidents are envisaged based on the quantification of important project impacts. The Study defines the plan of noise and vibration monitoring during the railway line construction and operation.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection issued the approval for the above-mentioned Environmental Impact Assessment Study (Decision on approval, No. 353-02-00137/2017-02 of 21st September 2017)
