Reconstruction of 6 tunnels on the Niš-Dimitrovgrad single-track railway line

Realization: 2003 - 2006

All present tunnels were constructed in the period from 1886 to 1887 by applying the old methods. Dependent on category of rock mass, tunnels were constructed either without wall lining or with partially lined walls including those tunnels that were provided with completely wall lining. Lining was done by dressed stone in the arch area and natural stone in the abutment zones.

The reconstruction design for all tunnels included as follows:

  • Providing clear profile for electric traction installations, fully in accordance with GC clearance for the track on tangent sections and in curves R>250 m
  • Use of shortcrete fully in accordance with category of rock masses that may be identified in the tunnel structure
  • Use of shortcrete in tunnel portal zones
  • Construction of drainage cannels and conduits.

Reconstruction works were performed from 2003 to 2006.
