This highway is very important for the Republic of Serbia since it connects central parts of the country with the East-West regions. Desire to strengthen links between big cities situated in the valley of Zapadna Morava River and Corridor X (E-75 Highway) as well as the future Corridor XI (E-763 highway), has imposed need for preparation of design and technical documentation for the E-761 Highway.

Pojate - Preljina Section connects territories of seven municipalities and towns (Ćićevac, Varvarin, Trstenik, and Vrnjačka Banja Municipalities and Kruševac and Čačak Towns) where about 467,000 inhabitants live.

Pojate - Kruševac Section, i.e. sectors 1, 2 and 3, connect the territory of three local communities (Ćićevac and Varvarin Municipalities and Kruševac Town) with 158,000 inhabitants.

The highway section, 27.8 km long and 30.0 m wide, with 4 traffic lanes, 2 emergency lanes, and central reserve is designed to support the speed of 130 km/h.

The section also includes 4 grade-separated junctions planned for reconstruction works ("Pojate", "Ćićevac", "Kruševac" East and "Kruševac" West), as well as construction of 25 bridges in the total length of 4 000 m.

Since the alignment of the future highway will run through the valley of Velika and Zapadna Morava Rivers and intersect numerous tributaries, stabilization and improvement of Jovanovačka, Vrtarska, Rasina and Pepeljuša Rivers will be carried out.

The studied corridor also includes the existing arterials:  M-1 national road, class 1, Niš- Skoplje railway line, and R-214 national road, class 2. The ''Predejane'' Tunnel, 1000 m long, and ''Predejane'' interchange enable link between local roads and the highway.

This section also includes 26 bridges, engineering structures and noise protection barriers.

The designs also include two grade-separated junctions: Surčin interchange (at the point of intersection with the Belgrade by-pass) and Obrenovac interchange (at the point of crossing with M-19 road).

The alignment is also planned to be provided with the bridge over the Sava and Kolubara Rivers that will be situated at the point of confluence of these rivers. The bridge will be 1766 m long, and will be constructed as steel structure with central span.

This alignment completely bypasses urban areas and together with the designed city arterial, from the Belgrade bypass to Vojvođanska and Jurija Gagarina Streets, enables connection of the Belgrade - South Adriatic Highway and the city of Belgrade itself.

It is worth mentioning that this highway section completely bypasses landslide area on the right bank of the Sava River and accepts traffic from the highway via the top-capacity arterials in New Belgrade and enables its further distribution toward old Belgrade and suburban settlements on the left Danube River bank via the present and new bridges (Ada Bridge and Zemun - Borča Bridge).

Since the section lies within the corridor of the existing road M1.12 National Road, this road is planned to be widened to the width of 10.70 m and used as right carriageway, while new left carriageway need to be constructed as well as 4 bridges and 4 overpasses including two types of supporting structures - retaining walls and retaining structures of reinforced earth. Noise barriers shall be installed to protect the area against traffic-originated noise.

The design is prepared fully in accordance with criteria obtained from competent authorities, traffic needs and comprehensive on-field investigations with the purpose to obtain rational technical, technological and spatial and urban solutions including protection of nature and cultural monuments within the studied corridor.

The key point identified within the corridor is the road-railway bridge over the Danube River, which, according to its technical and economic parameters is considered to be the most important structure on this infrastructure corridor.

The central structure of the bridge above the Danube River is composed of 4 truss simple beams, 600 m long in total.
