Geotechnical investigations and testing

  • Engineering-geological reconnaissance and mapping of ground,
  • Exploratory boreholesfor structural, geomechanical and hydrogeological workstogether with detailed engineering-geological core mapping,
  • Excavation of exploratory cuts, pits and shafts together with detailed engineering-geological mapping,
  • Installation of observation wells together with monitoring of underground water levels,
  • Installation of piezometer structures into boreholes together with monitoring of colluvial movements in soil,
  • Penetration tests: SPT tests (Standard Penetration Test) and CPT tests (Static Penetration Test),
  • Test pumping and testing of water permeability of soil (VDP test),
  • Testing and control of soil compressibility, and
  • Sampling ("core sampling") for the purpose of testing of quality of concrete, asphalt and similar homogenous materials.

For the purpose of geomechanical testing we engage two certified laboratories pursuant to the Agreement on Business and Technical Cooperation.

Тechnical capability

  1. Drilling rigs:

    • DB-505 Boart Longyear (self-propelled)
    • BG-1 (mounted on truck, FAP series),
    • 2 (two) FDR-150 (sled-mounted) and
    • 1 (one) probe drilling rig provided with complete accessories.
  2. Apparatus for execution of SPT tests according to USA Bureau of Reclamation Е-21 Standard.

  3. Apparatus for CPT tests (JUSUB 1.031),  "Gouda"static penetrometer, 10 KN in capacity.

  4. Rig fitted with KB-400 diamond crowns for core sampling for the purpose of testing of quality of concrete, asphalt and similar homogenous materials.

  5. Electronic light drop weight tester, "ZFG-04" (twosets) for supervision and quality control of compactness and bearing capacity of earth and other materials with option of direct reading of EVD values "in situ" (value of Еvd module is in correlation with values of Ev2 deformation modulus, fully in accordance withJUSU.B1.047, 1997).

  6. Equipment for detection and measurement of lateral and vertical movements of both soil and structures by means of installed inclinometer pipes, biaxial inclinometer probe and portable Loger (reader). This complex system (SOIL INSTRUMENTS LTD) operates according to 16 BIT micro processing technology and supports communication with relevant software package used for processing and analysis of measured data.

  7. For the purpose of preparation of geotechnical documentation, 17 personal computers, P IV / 3,4 Ghz и 3,6 Ghz, are in use.

  8. Advanced hardware equipment and numerous software programs for graphical and numerical processing, including special programs for geostatical computation:

    • Program for analysis of data obtained through inclinometer measurements, "GTILT 1998" MITRE SOFTWARE CORPORATION - Canada,
    • "WINSID" program for data control,instruments manufactured by SOIL INSTRUMENTS LTD –Great Britain,
    • Program for analysis and processing of data obtained through measurements performed on"ZFG-04"light drop weight tester,
    • "PLAXIS 8" program package for geostatical computation of soil and rocks by final elements method,
    • "ROCKLAB" program package for geostatical computation of rock masses.
    • Programs for analysis of slope stability according to different methods (Janbu, Тaylor, Bishopa and Hoek),
    • Computation of allowable bearing capacity of soil under foundation according to Eurokode 7 and Terzaghi method,
    • Computation of allowable bearing capacity of piles according to Brinch Hansen and Bustamante & Gianeselli methods,
    • Program for consolidation of foundation soil under embankment (according to Osterberg'sdiagrams),
    • Computation of consolidated settlements of foundation soil according to Stainbrenner's diagrams (adopted modulus of compressibility, computed compressibility moduli and results obtained through penetration tests) and
    • Computation of temporal consolidation with U% and Тcorrelation diagram.
